Keeping a jar of homemade basil pesto within reach has its own perks. While it feels yummy to this Italian sauce by the spoonful, it can also turn any dish into a culinary beauty. Toss it with pasta, slather it on sandwiches or simply serve it as a dip with crackers, basil pesto comes out as clear winner. Though I stuck to the classic recipe, you may switch the Parmesan with creamier ricotta cheese [Read more…]
Holy Guacamole!
I’ve always loved avocado in my food whether it’s on pizza, sandwiches, anything! However, the best way to really use an avocado is to make some guacamole out of it. I’ve seen and tried a lot of different types of guacamole before I came across this recipe and now I swear by it! You’re probably thinking it’s guacamole, how many different variations could there possibly be? And you are right because you can pretty much make guacamole any way you wish to depending on what type of flavors you prefer. But I like a little color in my food palette which separates this from the ordinary guacamole. [Read more…]
Creamy Kale with Corn
With the holidays just around the corner, I’ve been trying my best to eat clean and green but we all know how that’s nearly impossible with family and relatives always dropping by to give season’s greetings along with cookies and chocolates.
Anyways, I’ve been obsessed with kale lately, (well, ever since I recently tried it) and I was trying to combine it with my all-time favorite vegetable, the corn! When eaten together, it didn’t exactly have a pleasant taste so [Read more…]
Fruity Beetroot Sauce
I hope everyone had a hearty Thanksgiving and then burned off all those calories by going shopping for Black Friday!
Thanksgiving is always a wonderful time for us as my entire family gets together for a meal and bonding whether it’s just us sitting there and talking or playing a board game/card game/sport. This year for Thanksgiving, my mom wanted to try something different from the same ol’ boring cranberry sauce which is actually how this sauce came to be. Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE cranberries but we just wanted to try something new and exciting. [Read more…]
Coriander Chutney: Gujarati Style
I love the company of chutneys with my main dishes and always churning up some every alternate day to soothe my cravings. Coriander chutney happens to be my favorite but when it comes to preparing it, I am a bit conservative; until I eat this chutney at my Gujarati aunt’s place. The moment it touched my tongue, the flavors blew my mind! It has the aromatic flavors of cilantro, but there was something else which made it taste “WOW”! I asked for the recipe and she noted it down in a small piece paper. The ingredients made my jaw drop! What the…….this is so unusual!! [Read more…]

Pumpkin Raita (Yogurt)
I’ve always despised eating pumpkin regardless what form it’s in. It’s just so icky and gooey, not to mention it has a weird taste! The other day, we had some pumpkin puree and my mom was super excited to see what she could whip up with it. She decided to mix some in with yogurt and spices since practically everything goes with yogurt and viola, it was a success!
During dinner, I ate some pumpkin raita (unaware that the yogurt actually had pumpkin puree in it) and it was delicious! [Read more…]
How to Make Pumpkin Puree
As the autumn kicks off, the supermarkets are flooded with ripe, luscious-looking pumpkins. And the very sight of these vibrant beauties has tempted me to make a big batch of pumpkin puree for my future culinary ventures. While jarred varieties are good, nothing compares to the freshness of homemade pumpkin puree. Their natural sweetness adds sparkles to dishes like desserts, soups, spreads and dips like hummus. However, make sure you choose the smaller, blemish-free pumpkins which are heavier than they appear for yummier results. So whip up a large batch, freeze and use whenever you have a pumpkin craving! Peanut Coriander (Cilantro) Chutney
My love for peanuts has no bounds. Apart from snacking on them during my leisurely hours, I am always on a lookout for a chance to use peanuts in a variety of dishes and enjoy them in every way possible. Whether I use them in desserts or blend them in a curry, peanuts seem to add a rustic essence to the delicacy and turn every helping into decadence. But it’s the simple peanut coriander chutney which pleased my taste buds the most! Its lip-smacking… it’s refreshing… it’s full of aroma – it has all the qualities one looks for in perfect chutney!
Pudina Raita (Mint Yogurt)
During the summer, all I really want to eat is yogurt because it is light and it keeps you cool as well! I recently tried Greek yogurt and fell in love with it. After all, who wouldn’t like a yogurt that doesn’t come with added preservatives and chemicals and is actually healthy? [Read more…]
