Microwaveable Besan Barfi (Gram Flour Sweet)

Last Updated on July 20, 2015 by mohini 1 Comment

Microwaveable Besan Barfi Gram Flour Sweet
If you remember my previous post about the Besan Barfi, then you know how much I’ve loved this sweet ever since I was a kid. But nowadays, everyone is so busy trying to balance their personal and professional lives that we hardly get time to cook leisurely, let alone spend half-an-hour making a dessert! So when I came up with this, I fully embraced my inner lazy self and cut down the ‘cooking’ time by 2/3! And plus, standing on top of a stove-top in this blazing weather really isn’t my thing either so it’s the best of both worlds!

Granted the result of this microwaveable besan barfi and the original besan barfi are exactly the same, the time is the BIGGEST difference! And in this day and age, who doesn’t like to be more efficient! 🙂

Microwaveable Besan Barfi (Gram Flour Sweet)

By mohini

Skill Scale: Easy
Serving: 30
Cook Time: 10,12 minutes

Ingredients

  • unsalted butter - 2 sticks
  • gram flour (besan) - 2 cup
  • sugar - 1 ¼ cup
  • water - ¼ cup
  • cardamom powder - ¼ tsp
  • pistachio flakes - 1 tbsp
  • Other Items
  • Large microwaveable bowl - (4 quart)
  • Spatula
  • Cookie sheet - (9” x 7 ½”)
  • Ghee

Instructions

  1. Place the butter into a large microwaveable bowl  and put the bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes until the butter has melted
  2. Meanwhile, thoroughly grease your cookie sheet and ensure that all of its surfaces including the edges are covered in a thin layer of ghee and set aside
  3. Take the bowl out of the microwave, add gram flour to the bowl, stir the mixture and place the bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes
  4. Take the bowl out of the microwave, stir the mixture and place the bowl back in the microwave for 2 minutes
  5. Repeat step 4
  6. Take the bowl out of the microwave, stir the mixture and place the bowl back in the microwave for 1 minute
  7. Take the bowl out of the microwave, stir the mixture and place the bowl back in the microwave for 30 seconds
  8. Take the bowl out of the microwave, add sugar and water to the bowl and stir the mixture
  9. Place the bowl back into the microwave for 30 seconds
  10. Take the bowl out of the microwave, add cardamom powder to the bowl, and thoroughly stir the mixture
  11. Pour the mixture onto the greased cookie sheet and lightly tap it on a hard surface so it spreads evenly
  12. Sprinkle pistachio flakes onto the barfi mixture
  13. Wait until it is slightly cool and cut into 1 ½ inch pieces

NOTE: The microwave time may slightly vary depending on your microwave's heat therefore, when cooking the gram flour (besan) in the microwave, please keep an eye on the color and smell of the gram flour (besan). The cooked gram flour (besan) should be light brown.

NOTE: You have to constantly take out the mixture, stir and place it back into the microwave to ensure that all of the gram flour gets cooked and doesn't get burned. DO NOT cook all of the mixture at once in the microwave or else it'll get burned.
