Keeping a jar of homemade basil pesto within reach has its own perks. While it feels yummy to this Italian sauce by the spoonful, it can also turn any dish into a culinary beauty. Toss it with pasta, slather it on sandwiches or simply serve it as a dip with crackers, basil pesto comes out as clear winner. Though I stuck to the classic recipe, you may switch the Parmesan with creamier ricotta cheese or add cilantro leaves for aromatic whiff. Each time basil pesto will shine; no contest!

Ingredients

  • basil leaves - 1 oz
  • clove garlic - 1
  • pine nuts - 2 tbsp
  • Parmesan cheese - 1/3 cup
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • black pepper - pinch
  • extra virgin olive oil - 3-4 tbsp

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients to the blender and process.
