Growing up, I’ve always enjoyed eating Indo-Chinese cuisine which is basically Chinese food with a touch of Indian spices and flavors. This honey-chili potatoes recipe however blends in a little bit of American into the traditional Indo-Chinese cuisine making it even more intricate. [Read more…]
Tomatillo Salsa (Salsa Verde)
Being a huge fan and lover of Mexican cuisine, I’ve always been fascinated with the numerous amount of salsas that are served along with appetizers and entrees at Mexican restaurants. Tomatillo salsa (salsa verde) has always been one of my favorites because of its rich texture and its ability to make anything it is added to extremely creamy! [Read more…]
Besan Barfi (Gram Flour Sweet)
As a child, I had always been fond of desserts however, besan barfi was my all-time favorite Indian sweet especially when my grandma made it when I visited her during the summer. I used to eat one everyday until the very day that I saw my grandma preparing this and what I saw blew my mind. [Read more…]
Coconut Barfi (Sweet)
Growing up, I always saw my mom, aunts and grandma making a variety of Indian sweets for all of the different festivals that we celebrated. Being the designated taster during all of these dessert-making-sessions eventually led to an interest on quickly making these wonderful delicacies to match their skills and speed.
Tropical Fruit Sauce
My mom has always been a fan of fruits. It doesn’t matter what fruit it is, if it’s a fruit my mom will eat it. The other day we found quite a variety of fruits in our fridge so we blended up a smoothie for ourselves but we had bits and pieces left over. Because my brother didn’t want to eat them in their “real form”, my mom thought about it for a moment and decided to change the form of the fruit into a fruit sauce. [Read more…]
Healthy Jicama Root Fries
Kids have a tendency to love anything that’s bad for them and hate anything that’s good for them: the perfect example being french fries. French fries seem harmless, after all, they’re just batons of potato sprinkled with salt, right? Wrong! Fast food restaurants fry them, then deep-fry them to make them extra crispy and top them with a salt serving that you’re supposed to have in an entire day! But because they’re a favorite of kids all around the world, you can’t always say no when they ask to eat some french fries.
Edamame Hummus
Hummus has always been an integral part of Mediterranean cuisine as it brings out the flavor and it adds its own kick to everything that it is added to. However whenever you order hummus at a restaurant, you see more oil and less hummus which is EXTREMELY unhealthy and unappetizing.
Pasta Salad with Tofu
As a vegetarian, tofu has always been a huge part of my diet as a substitute for meat products in order to get my daily dose of complete protein when I’m not eating lentils. Although many people believe that tofu is tasteless, they are unaware that taste can be added to it by marinating it with different spices. This tofu pasta salad recipe shows a good way to fuse Italian flavors in the traditionally flavorless Chinese tofu to create a pasta salad with a new twist. [Read more…]
Vegetable Cake
Growing up, my ultimate goal was to learn how to cook just like my grandma (or atleast try and get close to her level of cooking) so I would always spend my time with her in the kitchen whenever I’d visit her during my summer vacations. She taught me quite a few things but her tips and tricks always stuck with me and they still come in handy to this very day. I’m actually quite thankful for her quick thinking ability to change a wrong to a right in the kitchen without having to think much while I’d be freaking out about how to fix my mistakes eventually creating an even bigger mess. I still remember when I had first watched her make this vegetable cake recipe, I stood there thinking to myself ‘wow, this looks really easy. I can definitely make this’; however, it was the complete opposite. [Read more…]
Creamy Spinach Spiral Tortilla Rolls
Growing up, I had always LOVED spinach since I was an avid watcher of the cartoon series, Popeye, in which the lead character gets all of his power to beat up the villains from eating spinach! Because of my immense love for spinach, I would put it on anything that I could whether it was pizza, juices or even in my salads. It sounds gross but trust me, it was delicious! [Read more…]
